The Leading Filemaker Developer Tools

NYC FileMaker Developer Group Meeting Thursday, January 18th, 2018

1) Card Windows: What, How, When, and Why…

The Card Window is a new layout metaphor introduced in FileMaker 16 that allows the user to “embed” one layout within another. Unlike a Popover, the card window can have a different table context and it seems to present a whole new world. J. Sciarra of Colibri Solutions, LLC will demonstrate that we’ve had this functionality available to us already just not with the “embedded” part and outline what the use cases are for using card windows effectively in your development toolbox. It turns out that they are an important new feature whose function is in some ways more psychological than purely functional though the argument will be made that this is a transitional step to a new design surface in the FileMaker Platform. The “gimmes and the gotchas” will be clearly outlined to make the choice of using card windows easier for those that have not yet had the opportunity yet to employ them.
